The Dissident Library: The Oxford Handbook of Soviet Underground Culture

The Dissident Library resumes its work at the ZfL with a discussion of The Oxford Handbook of Soviet Underground Culture, which examines dissidence in its literary and sociological aspects. Our talk will focus on the terminological issues problematized in the introduction to the handbook which presents, as the authors say, “a spectrum of theoretical problems associated with the Soviet artistic underground as a historical and cultural phenomenon.” The key approach to be discussed is the concept of the aestheticized lifeworld.
